Here is how a poker affiliate makes money in a nutshell without all the hype.
You bring in people who play real money online poker. When you sign up as an affiliate you have a choice to promote what is known as CPA = Cost per aquisition or MGR = Managed gross revenue.
CPA: What is it and why do I want it?
CPA stands for cost per aquisition. Ultimate Bet pays you a flat fee per player that you recruit. However, that player has to deposit real money and clear 100 UB point requirement by playing real money raked hands. Once that player qualify’s you get paid your CPA amount. CPA usually comes with a sliding scale. If it doesn’t then you can negotiate for a higher scale later if you can bring in big numbers.
Example:
1-10 players = $100 per
11-20 players = $110 per
21-40 players = $125 per and so on.
Why you want CPA
Well if you’re in the poker affiliate business short term, CPA is perfect for you. You send players, they qualify you get paid. You could refer the same players who play very low limits and take 8 months or longer to rake the same amount you would have made with CPA in 1-2 months. It all depends on what you want to earn and what type of players you are referring. If you can refer low stakes players go CPA, if you can refer high stakes players go MGR.

MGR: What is it and why do I want it?
MGR stands for Managed Gross Revenue. Ultimate Bet will pay the affiliate 25% of all player’s rake for that month for the life of the signed up players.
I recommend to all my subaffiliates to go with MGR. MGR will pay you down the road, it just takes time to build up a base of players to actually play regularly. Once you have that established there is more money to be made. Its not easy and thats why rookies go immediately to CPA, because they have dollar signs in their eyes.
The usual story is if the poker site has bad player retention than go with CPA so that you make your money near the beginning of the player’s online life. However, Ultimate Bet has above average player retention and online playability is excellent.

Why you want MGR
You will get a cut of all your total referred players raked pots. If you have the ability to refer high stakes or mid stakes frequent players you will want to go with MGR, because there will be alot of rake contribution to the pots. Ultimate Bet makes their money on the rake. In poker every real money hand played gets raked or a piece of the pot (a very small piece) goes to the house. If your MGR equals up to $10,000, you will earn 25% of that amount minus any promos or bonuses issued to your player pool. With $20k to $29k, you will earn 30% of that gross revenue - bonuses, promos, etc. Finally you will get 35% when your MGR goes above $30k.
Is this possible? Yes its very possible and its just the tip of the iceberg.
